In the opening leg of the Third Preliminary Round of the Copa Libertadores, Hurricane and Sporting Cristal compete for a place among the 32 teams that will compete in the group phase. The match takes place at the Palacio Tomás A. Ducó, with the return leg scheduled in Lima a week later.
El Quemero advanced to this round by defeating Boston River after a 0-0 draw in Uruguay in the first match and a 1-0 victory at Parque Patricios thanks to a goal from Cóccaro. In domestic action, Diego Dabove’s squad drew 1-1 with San Lorenzo in the classic affair.
Sporting Cristal, meanwhile, endured a 2-0 loss to Nacional in Paraguay but turned the tie around with a 5-1 win at the National Stadium in Lima. In the Peruvian Primera División, they played a scoreless draw with ADT in their latest league outing and sit sixth with eight points on the table.
