Conor McGregor, the former UFC champion who held titles in two weight classes, spoke dismissively on social media about former lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov.
McGregor wrote, “We beat their system in The Ultimate Fighter, so it’s no surprise that Khabib screwed himself up and isn’t racing anymore. This challenger got too fat to compete, so we won. You can’t compete with us. All you have to do is watch, you bastard!”
McGregor and Nurmagomedov met once in the Octagon. At UFC 229, the Russian defeated the Irish star with a relentless grappling sequence, securing Nurmagomedov the UFC lightweight title.
McGregor’s most recent bout came in the summer of 2021, a loss to Dustin Poirier that marked a turning point in his fighting career.
There were public statements from McGregor indicating plans to compete in two more matches by year’s end, though the details and outcomes of those potential bouts remained uncertain at the time.
