Clásico Comes to North America: Barcelona vs Real Madrid and a USA Tour

In the upcoming summer, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will face off in a Clásico that travels to the United States for a friendly in Las Vegas on July 23. The clash forms part of the Football Champions Tour, with Blaugranas also scheduled to meet Juventus in Dallas on July 26, completing a four-game U.S. tour for the club.

Known to supporters as the USA Summer Tour 2022, the pre-season schedule for Barcelona features a sequence of fixtures across major American venues. Inter Miami FC will host on July 19, followed by Real Madrid on July 23, Juventus on July 26, and the New York Red Bulls on July 30.

Real Madrid has similarly confirmed a U.S. tour comprising three friendlies. The opening match is the Classic, with subsequent fixtures against an American club and Mexico, culminating with a showdown against Juventus on July 26 in San Francisco and a final appearance in Los Angeles on July 30.

Regarding Clásico, the second meeting between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid on American soil, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is a venue with a capacity to welcome around 65,000 fans. It serves as the home stadium of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders and represents a modern, high-profile site for this traditional rivalry in North America.

The first Clásico on North American soil took place on July 30, 2017, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, drawing more than 64,000 spectators. The match featured a thrilling finish as the clash ended with a 3-2 result in favor of the visitors, a memory that still resonates with fans who remember a vibrant atmosphere and intense competition.

This trip marks FC Barcelona’s inaugural visit to Las Vegas, a city never before seen on the Blaugrana’s U.S. itinerary despite twelve prior journeys to the United States. Three days after the Las Vegas match, Barcelona will travel to Turin to square off with Juventus at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, under the management of Massimiliano Allegri.

It will be the fifth encounter between Barcelona and Juventus on U.S. soil. The earliest clashes date back to 1969, when back-to-back games were staged at Yankee Stadium in New York and in Chicago. Further matchups were held in Boston in 2003, with the latest appearing in 2017 when Juventus claimed a 2-1 victory at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

These friendly matches against Real Madrid and Juventus are organized by the sports and entertainment company AEG and feature involvement from Club América and Guadalajara Sports Club through the arrangement, underscoring the cross-border appeal of major football events in North America.
