Chelsea names Frank Lampard interim boss as season date approaches

The coaching staff surrounding Lampard will include Joe Edwards, Chris Jones, and Joe Cole, all brought in to support the interim arrangement and provide continuity within a familiar framework for the squad.
Lampard’s appointment comes after his departure from Everton in January. He previously served as Chelsea manager from 2019 to 2021, guiding the club through a period of competitive action and domestic cup campaigns.
Chelsea also confirmed the departure of Graham Potter, who had been at the helm since September 2022. Potter’s contract extended to the end of June 2027, but circumstances dictated a change in leadership ahead of the closing stages of the season.
Under Lampard’s interim charge, the team has recorded a record of 12 wins, 11 losses, and eight draws across all competitions. The Blues sit in 11th place in the Premier League with 38 points from 28 matches and continue their Champions League campaign, having advanced to the quarter-finals where they will face Real Madrid.
In league play, Chelsea recently faced Liverpool in a previously postponed match from the eighth week of the Premier League era, settling for a 0-0 draw. It marks the second consecutive game without a goal for the Blues in league action, underscoring the immediate challenges ahead for the interim coaching setup.
