Charo Esquiva brought fresh excitement to Spanish tennis as a 15-year-old. In the Roland Garros junior event, his run ended in the round of 16, yet the display in Paris left a strong impression. He pushed a deciding set into a tiebreak, fighting back from 0-6, then 6-2 and 7-6, before a two-hour and 13-minute battle with Denmark’s Rebecca Munk concluded in defeat. The match featured several extended games and showcased the young athlete’s grit. A standout from Bigastro who trains with Torrevieja Tennis Club, Esquiva earned wide acclaim in a championship that drew major media attention, marking his first appearance in a major junior tournament at such a young age.

Continuing his strong form, the Alicante native then defeated Russian player Vlada Mincheva 7-6 (3) and 6-1, battling back after losing the first set to produce another fearless performance in tight moments.
Despite his youth, Esquiva has already made significant strides, climbing into the top 40 of the ITF junior rankings. He will also compete in the final stage of the junior Wimbledon event after securing enough points by triumphing at the ITF junior 500 in Offenbach, Germany. That result places him among the elite juniors on the world tour, with only a handful of Junior Grand Slams remaining in terms of impact.

Esquiva has shown steady improvement over time. At 14, he established himself as champion of the absolute Valencian Community championship held at the Equelite academy in Villena, home court for his early development.
He later claimed the under-14 title at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in 2022 and also topped the Valencian Community children’s championships in both singles and doubles. A notable breakthrough moment came with victory at the Mutua Madrid Open junior event at La Nucia, which earned him a place in the Mutua Madrid Open Masters at Caja Mágica. In the final, the Torrevieja Tennis Club product defeated Carlota Vilá 6-3 6-1 after advancing through qualifying unscathed. He reflected on the experience, noting that the field includes the world No. 1 and many older players, yet he felt able to compete at that level, especially as he qualified for the Roland Garros round of 16.
