Chalov and the European move talk, with Mostovoy weighing in

Alexander Mostovoy, the former Celta midfielder, has weighed in on Fedor Chalov, the CSKA Moscow forward. He suggested that Chalov will not reach a level comparable to his own while playing in Spain, noting that a guaranteed starting spot remains uncertain for the Russian striker. Chalov has already tested his chances in Europe, and those attempts did not yield the expected outcomes, according to Mostovoy as cited by Sports Express.

The rumor mill linked Chalov with a move to major European leagues. In May, reports emerged that Marseille, the French club, showed interest in Chalov. Transfer market analyses at the time placed Chalov around 11 to 12 million euros in value, with Marseille exploring the feasibility of a transfer to CSKA Moscow. Chalov reportedly expressed a desire to move from the Russian Premier League to one of Europe’s top five leagues, seeking new challenges beyond his homeland.

During the 2023/24 campaign, Chalov appeared in 29 competitive matches across all competitions. He contributed 12 goals and provided 3 assists, while picking up 3 yellow cards. The season highlighted Chalov’s consistency and his goal-scoring instinct, making him a notable figure for clubs considering a transfer target from Russia.

Earlier, Sevilla, the Spanish club, was also reported to have shown interest in Chalov. The chatter around Chalov’s potential moves underscores a broader trend of European clubs keeping a close eye on Russian talents who aim to test themselves in top-tier leagues.
