Celta de Vigo has identified the writer behind the club’s much-anticipated Centenary anthem. The announcement centers on a social post that began the conversation: “can i try?” The choice drew attention as C. The shortlist for the centennial march drew in a broad mix of performers who share Celtic ties. To date, the club has kept a discreet stance on the final lineup, stating that the anthem would be performed by “celtistas of great talent.” The piece is planned to debut in the spring season.

A Totally Handsome Anthem

From a young age, C. Tangana felt a strong connection to the celestial shield and the Vigo region, a passion his father helped nurture. “I’m connected to Celta because of my dad. After all, one is aligned with the playing team. And my father from Vigo loves Celta to the core,” he explained in a candid interview. The sense of belonging comes through in every word.

Last summer, El Madrileño delivered a massive concert in Olívica, where he once again hinted at his Celtic roots and his readiness to contribute to the club’s legacy.

“I’m going to craft a hymn that will be totally handsome, everyone knows that,” he stated shortly after first expressing interest two years prior. Antón Álvarez is C. Tangana’s given name, a fact he has acknowledged amid a split in fan opinions. The public conversation included questions about whether rock elements would dominate the anthem, with Tangana acknowledging mixed reactions and a willingness to bow out if the reception proved unfriendly.

Yet the proposal found a receptive audience at the highest level of the club. President Carlos Mouriño welcomed the idea with enthusiasm, saying the club was eager to explore Tangana’s vision and even consider incorporating Galician influences to enrich the composition. This openness signaled a collaborative approach aimed at honoring the club’s heritage while appealing to a broad audience, including international fans who follow La Liga from North America. The tone from leadership suggested a pragmatic balance between tradition and contemporary appeal, a move that could help elevate the Centenary project as a global talking point.
