Italy’s Aeneas Bastianini, nicknamed “The Beast,” aboard the Ducati Desmosedici GP21, secured his second victory of the season at the American Grand Prix held at the Circuit of the Americas. The result propelled him back into the lead of the provisional world standings, as Spaniard Marc Márquez aboard the Repsol Honda RC 213V delivered a standout performance and climbed back up to sixth overall.
From eighth on the grid, Márquez encountered an electronics issue that initially dropped him to the rear of the field. He then embarked on a fearless charge, producing some of the fastest lap times of the race and steadily carving his way through the pack. His spirited march culminated in a dramatic duel with the current MotoGP world champion, French veteran Fabio Quartararo on the Yamaha YZR-M1, before finishing in sixth place after an intense, high-stakes fight.
Bastianini demonstrated the patience everyone expected from a seasoned contender. He bided his time, waited for the perfect moment, and unleashed a sprint that left rivals stunned. Jack Miller, the Australian rider on the Ducati Desmosedici GP21 who had led the race for a stretch, found himself overtaken late on as Bastianini surged ahead to claim victory. Miller’s triumph in the season’s standings had already marked another milestone for him, but in the end he was edged out by a late surge from Miller, who then surrendered the lead to Bastianini in the final laps. Alex Rins on the Suzuki GSX-RR and Aleix Espargaró on the Aprilia RS-GP closed hard, edging Miller on the checkered line to claim runner-up spots behind Bastianini.
The Texas wind conditions added a layer of challenge across the weekend. The gusty atmosphere played a significant role in shaping race dynamics, with Moto2 experiencing a higher-than-usual rate of incidents. The gusts contributed to a notably shortened Moto2 race, finishing with only 17 riders still in contention as the field navigated the tricky conditions at high speed on the COTA circuit.
