This Spanish ex-pilot Pedro Martínez de la Rosa has been named the new ambassador for the Formula 1 team, embarking on this role starting this Thursday. Aston Martin, with Fernando Alonso set to race for them from next year, will also rely on de la Rosa to help identify and nurture emerging talent within the sport.

In a fresh assignment, Pedro de la Rosa will assume wide-ranging duties that span communications, media presence, public relations, marketing, promotional activities, commercial strategy, and general consultancy for Aston Martin. The team noted that the approach centers on leveraging its communications and media teams, marketing specialists, visitor services operators, and the commercial sales unit to maximize the organization’s off-track impact and visibility.

The English outfit confirmed that the 51-year-old Barcelona native will also serve as a consultant for the Driver Development Program, assisting with the selection, development, and cultivation of promising young drivers who could one day compete at the highest level.

De la Rosa expressed enthusiasm about joining the squad as its ambassador. He reflected on past collaborations with Fernando Alonso during his time at McLaren and Ferrari and said he already knows many faces within the team. He looks forward to reconnecting with colleagues across the organization and contributing to the team’s evolving story.

The former pilot hopes to bring a wealth of experience and practical insight to support the team’s growth and to bolster the commercial and marketing efforts as the project gains momentum. His involvement is framed as a direct contribution to sustaining and expanding the momentum Aston Martin has built in recent seasons and planning ahead for 2023 and beyond.

He stressed that Aston Martin holds substantial potential and praised the addition of a strong roster of new technical leaders and corporate partners. The arrival of Fernando Alonso next year is seen as a pivotal moment that would further strengthen the team’s resources and determination to achieve success on multiple fronts.

De la Rosa also highlighted his eagerness to work with the squad’s Aston Martin family and with Canadian driver Lance Stroll, noting Stroll’s demonstrated talent across junior categories en route to Formula 1. He described this as an ideal moment to join the organization and pledged to work tirelessly to maximize opportunities as the team charts an exciting future together.

Team Principal Mike Krack commented on the Catalan role, describing it as a cornerstone for the team’s broader business improvement efforts. The aim is to deepen engagement with media and fans and to propel the launch of new Driver Development Programs as part of ongoing partner initiatives.

Krack remarked that Pedro’s depth of knowledge and practical experience are unmatched within the sport. He expressed confidence that de la Rosa will not only fulfill the defined ambassadorial mission but also uncover new avenues to help the team evolve in other areas as well. The addition was described as a strong asset to the Aston Martin family, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to the organization.
