Ancelotti’s Clásico record with Real Madrid against Barcelona: matches, wins, losses and titles
balanced balance
The Italian manager did not begin his Real Madrid tenure with immediate success in these derbies, yet he steadily turned the trend in his favor and now owns a 5-5 record in official matches against Barça.
Across ten clashes with Barça, the encounters have spanned La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. In the league and in the cup competitions, Madrid have claimed two wins apiece, and the same pattern appears in the Super Cup matchups.

Bale’s memorable moment
Among all Clasico chapters, one moment stands out for Ancelotti: Gareth Bale’s goal in the 2013/14 Copa del Rey final. Bale burst down the left, outpaced Bartra and slotted past Pinto to seal a 2-1 win, handing Ancelotti his first Spanish title as Madrid coach and erasing two league defeats Barça had handed them earlier.

A defeat that felt like a parting
The 2014–15 season marked a tough stretch. After a long unbeaten run, Madrid’s momentum faded as Luis Enrique’s Barça, backed by the MSN trio, surged in the league with a decisive second leg win at Camp Nou (2-1). Madrid also faced a Champions League semi-final setback to Juventus in May, shaping a difficult period for Ancelotti’s squad.

A tough chapter in the series
The most recent Clasicos prior to 2022 carried a stern sting. The last time Ancelotti faced Barça in this Derby, Madrid were narrowly beaten, and he publicly shouldered responsibility for the approach and the implications, acknowledging the need for a sharper game plan with his team.

A strong start in 2022-2023
In the opening Clasico of the 2022-2023 campaign, Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu. Benzema, Valverde and Rodrygo supplied the goals, signaling a confident start under Ancelotti and reinforcing Madrid’s readiness to defend their league title.
Sticking with the Super Cup…
Entering 2023, Madrid faced some early doubts as they approached the Spanish Super Cup. Barça rode that momentum and defeated Madrid 3-1, underscoring how swiftly form can shift in this rivalry and how important it is for the defending champions to reset quickly.
… and in the cup
The 2023 Copa del Rey semi-final first leg saw Madrid drop a 0–1 defeat, with Militao scoring an unfortunate own goal. Madrid controlled possession but failed to carve out clear chances, ultimately succumbing to the loss and the mounting pressure of a tight tie.
