Men of Xavi Hernández visit Indálic without Ansu Fati, Pedri González or Ousmane Dembélé

After the painful exit from the UEFA Europa League, FC Barcelona returns to La Liga this Sunday with an away match against Almería. Xavi Hernández’s team aims to extend their lead at the top of the table as they travel to Andalusia to face an Almería side hoping to climb away from the relegation zone.

For the match, Xavi has three confirmed absences. Pedri González and Ousmane Dembélé are sidelined by injury, while Ansu Fati has a knee issue and will not travel to Indálica. There is a doubt over Jules Koundé after he finished the last game in discomfort against Manchester United.

rotations on the cards

With those injuries in play, the Barcelona coach could rotate the lineup. Ronald Araújo might move to right back to avoid stressing Koundé. That would allow Marcos Alonso or Eric García to come in at center back alongside Andreas Christensen, though it is possible the Dane could be rested. On the left flank Jordi Alba would return. In midfield, a return for Pablo Gavi looks likely alongside Franck Kessié and Sergio Busquets, with Frenkie de Jong as a potential starter. Up front, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski appear as guaranteed selections, while Ferran Torres or Sergi Roberto could complete the attacking setup.

Almería could revert to a five-man defence

Barcelona will face an Almería side that is struggling near the bottom of the table and facing a three-match losing run. Rubi may revert to a five-man defense in response to Barcelona’s threats. There are two main doubts for the Indálico lineup. Alejandro Pozo is dealing with a knock, and Houboulang Mendes is another issue in the right-back area. Up front, Ramazani and El Bilal Touré will compete for a place alongside Luis Suárez, who is also in contention for a starting spot.
