She recalled a troubling incident from when she was sixteen, describing a routine that took her from the nearby training rink to her home. She spoke of a man who would linger by the track, always waiting as she stepped off the ice and began her walk back. In the recollection, the man rode alongside her in a brightly colored jeep and called out from an open window, saying, “I’ll take you with me.” The moment, she said, was unsettling and left a lasting impression on her early life.
Beyond the Olympic gold she earned on the world stage, Zagitova has a distinguished record at the World Championships, where she secured the title in 2019. She also left her mark at the European Championships with both gold and silver medals across the 2018 and 2019 editions. After a period away from some competitions in 2020 and 2021, Zagitova did not publicly announce retirement. In February of the following year, she took on a leadership role as captain of a Channel One Cup team tournament, a contest in which the team from the Red Machine earned the overall victory.

She has co-hosted the Ice Age show for two seasons alongside another Olympic champion, Alexei Yagudin. In the 2022/23 season, Anna Shcherbakova, who claimed Olympic glory in 2022, joined the program.
