The Alicante schools celebrated a notable triumph at the finale of the fourth edition of the national School League, hosted at the National Golf Center in Madrid. Three centers from Alicante took part, joining nine regional federations in a display of skill and team spirit. Laude Newton College, Guardian Angel, and Great St. Albert delivered performances that underscored the strength of youth golf in the region. The season’s renewal came after a two-year pause caused by the pandemic, and the School League remains a cornerstone for students and schools enrolled in Spain’s official Golf in Schools program under the RFEG.

The Valencia Community Golf Federation’s delegation spoke volumes through the results. The team clinched victory at the Spanish Championship, with the Rius siblings from Laude Newton College Elche achieving a memorable win. The Ángel de la Guarda school in Alicante, led by Héctor Azorín and Juan Manuel Verdú Torrubia, earned second place, while Azorín himself claimed an individual triumph. Clara Rius and Diego Rius also secured second and third places, respectively. These outcomes validate FGCV’s initiatives channeled through Elche Public School, and they highlight a proud moment for local golf. Attribution: FGCV.

Alicante’s team was steered at the National Golf Centre by Juan Manuel Verdú Torrubia and Héctor Azorín from Ángel de la Guarda. San Alberto Magno’s representatives, David Jara and Africa Oliva, participated alongside Diego Rius and Clara Rius defending Laude Newton College. The event adhered to the standard Handicap League format, featuring 32 participants and 12 competitors with varying abilities. The Central Handicap System registered no reductions or exemptions, and every participant held a valid federative license. This structure reinforced fair play and competitive integrity throughout the finals. Attribution: Spanish Golf Federation.

Elche Golf School, the factory of champions

The movement known as the Golf School League began its course in 2017, bringing together schools and student representatives chosen by each Autonomous Federation to stand for their region. The School League was created to provide continuity to the Golf at Schools program, launched in 2010 to promote golf within Spanish society. Its aim is clear: to plant the core values of golf—humility, sacrifice, perseverance—deep into the education of young people, and to translate those virtues into other life arenas. This initiative continues to drive national enthusiasm for the sport while nurturing future talent and sportsmanship.
