Sexual harassment and hostile work environment allegations in Alhama FC coaching case

The initial findings concern the treatment of players by Randri García, the coach of Alhama Club de Fútbol. An extensive inquiry by the Labor Inspectorate (ITSS) determined that many players were subjected to unsuitable conduct, which transformed the locker room into a hostile work environment.

The case emerged after FutPro, the predominantly female football union, filed a formal complaint triggering the ITSS investigation. The investigation was later reported by El Periódico de Cataluña, part of Prensa Ibérica. Over time, the inspectorate noted repeated incidents of inappropriate behavior by the coach, alleging that such conduct damaged the reputations of a substantial portion of the players and did not serve to improve performance or player management. The analysis concluded that these behaviors were directed at a majority of players rather than aimed at any legitimate coaching objective.

According to the ITSS assessment, the inappropriate conduct occurred repeatedly and indiscriminately affected most players. The described actions included demeaning and derogatory remarks that fostered a humiliating and offensive work environment, underscoring the severity of the alleged harassment within team settings.

Official statements followed FutPro’s complaint, with ITSS confirming that the troubling behavior impacted the reputation of Alhama Club de Fútbol players. This case drew attention on social platforms where the club and its supporters discussed next steps in response to the findings.

In a separate but related element of the complaint, Randri García was reported to have sent sexually explicit photographs to staff members. ITSS confirmed that the image circulation originated from the coach’s phone within the distribution list and, therefore, involved the coach directly in distributing the material. As a consequence, ITSS issued a Violation Act and initiated the sanctions process against Alhama in connection with this incident.

The combination of hostile work environment allegations and the sexual image episode has placed the club under scrutiny and prompted ongoing procedures to address the alleged misconduct and its impact on players, staff, and the broader organization. The case highlights the responsibilities of sports organizations to ensure safe and respectful workplaces and to take prompt action when allegations arise.

At stake are measures to safeguard players’ well-being, preserve the integrity of the club, and maintain the trust of supporters and stakeholders across Canada and the United States where similar standards apply to professional sports teams and coaching staff.
