Adaptive football initiatives in Ufa expand youth outreach
Shamil Gazizov, the General Director of the Ufa football club, spoke about launching an adaptive football section for children with special needs within the club. He noted that Ufa players routinely engage with these children, helping them develop football skills while fostering a supportive team environment.
“Yes, we do this frequently. We also sponsor a school where adaptive football is practiced. These activities matter a lot; working with children who have special needs, including those who face tougher challenges, is essential. Many children participate in our programs. Recently, the club opened an adaptive football department, and the young players have shown impressive progress. We also collaborate with ordinary schools, delivering football lessons. We shared insights when visitors from abroad discussed how football is evolving in their country. Football has the power to unite people, and that is a core value for us”, Gazizov shared with reporters.
Gazizov spoke during a visit hosted by Gazprombank for a Football Lesson in Ufa, part of the Football at School project. Ambassadors of the Russian Football Union (RFU) arrived in Bashkortostan’s capital to meet local youth players: former national team stars Dmitry Sychev and Ruslan Pimenov, Zenit silver medalist Alexei Gasilin, former women’s national team striker Elena Terekhova, and world beach football champion Boris Nikonorov. Over two days, they connected with more than 600 students from 77 Bashkortostan schools involved in the program, offering coaching, demonstrations, and opportunities for autographs and photos after matches.
Across Russia, the Football at School project involves 2,150 schools from 48 regions. Each participating institution receives a structured football physical education lesson along with equipment to support the setup of local football sections.
For many young athletes, the chance to learn from high-profile players is a catalyst for continued participation in football. The project underscores the value of inclusive sport experiences that welcome children with diverse abilities and foster lifelong engagement in physical activity.
In Ufa, the emphasis on adaptive football aligns with broader efforts to integrate sport into community life. The program supports young players, coaches, and families by providing accessible training opportunities, mentorship from former professionals, and a framework to build confidence through teamwork and shared achievement. The initiative illustrates how clubs can extend their impact beyond competitive play, creating welcoming environments where all children can enjoy the benefits of sport.
This emphasis on inclusive football reflects a growing trend toward community-based programs that prioritize participation, development, and social connection. With continued support from clubs, federations, and sponsors, adaptive football and school-based lessons can broaden access to sport for children of varied abilities, fostering a healthier, more cohesive youth culture.
