Well-known insider and journalist Tom Henderson (Tom Henderson) spoke about Sony’s plans for a new overhaul of the PS5. He has been informed of this on condition of anonymity by sources familiar with the situation.

The new consoles are expected to go into production midway through fiscal year 2023 and be released in September 2024. Technically, the consoles won’t differ much from the current version, but at the same time they will get a removable drive that plugs into the USB-C port on the back panel. It is believed that the new revision will replace the old models.
Versions with and without drive are available for sale. The disk drives themselves will also be on sale, which will simplify their replacement. It is possible that in this way the company will unify production and combine the lines of the regular PS5 and the digital version.
The consoles themselves are expected to get thinner and lighter, though it’s not yet clear whether their design will be redesigned or left unchanged. Sources believe the company still won’t change the look of the game system. Even Cyberpunk 2077’s quest director spoke about the GTA 6 leak.
