Google Corporation announced a major change in the search engine’s work. In the coming months, users around the world, including Russia, France and Brazil, will automatically reduce national domains such as Google.ru or Google.fr, to the main address of Google.com. This decision is completed by a long -term process of refusing regional URLs, which were previously considered key to personalize the results.
Earlier, Google used the domains of countries (CCTLD) to adjust search results for local requests. However, since 2017, algorithms have learned to determine the location of the user without referral to a specific site address. Even at the entrance via Google.com, a resident of Moscow saw, for example, relevant news, weather or business sections of his region. The technical necessity in individual domains disappeared and the company decided to unite the interface.

According to Google, the transition to a single domain has no influence on the functionality of the search. Users continue to receive results, taking into account the language, local legislation and geolocation, and Google.com appears at the address rule instead of Google.ru. The only noticeable change is a possible request to update personal settings, such as the region or interfacetal, at the first entrance of the updated URL.
Experts note that this is a step to simplify the technical infrastructure. The combination of domains will reduce the costs of supporting many versions of the site and minimizing errors related to switching between the regions. The transition will be gradual: some users will see Google.com in the coming weeks, others during the year. For most this remains unobtrusive, except the fact that the address in the browser is changed.
