Microsoft recently released an update for Windows 10 and 11, who left unexpected traces. Cyber security experts drawn attention to the empty folder “Inetpub”, which appeared on the Disk C: \ After the update.
The first about the find was announced by Will Dormann on the Mastodon Forum. This folder is associated with the “Internet Information Services” (IIS) from Microsoft – a rather controversial platform, reports Tom’s hardware. This allows you to unfold directly in the PC applications, websites and services before you start, but it has a number of vulnerabilities and is often subject to hacker attacks. In the notes of the KB505523 updates for Windows 11 and KB5055518 for Windows 10, it is not indicated for what purpose this folder has been added.

In the meantime, Microsoft has already confirmed the availability and asked users not to delete Inetpub:
After installing the updates stated in the “Security Update” table for your operating system, a new system drive %\ Inetpub folder will be made on your device. This folder may not be removed, regardless of whether the Internet Information Services (IIS) is active on the target device. This behavior is part of the changes that increase safety and requires no action by the IT managers and end users. This is just an informative change.
Microsoft recently started testing fast security updates without restarting the PC. The Hotpatch function has already been published in the Windows 11 24h2 Assemblage and is not yet available for a wide range of users.
