Valve has taken a step to universize the ecosystem of its ecosystem by introducing the beta version of Steamos 3.7.0 with the codename “Pi Day”. The most important sensation of the update was the experimental support of portable devices of the third party manufacturers, which can install Steamos for the first time in the history of the Steamos platform on gadgets that are not related to the steam cover line. So far, Lenovo Legion Go S is the only confirmed compatible device, but this is just the start of large expansion of large scales.
The update entails the following changes to the operating system:
- The transition to the Linux 6.11 core and the Modern Arch Linux basis, which increases safety and opens access to the latest software.
- Plasma 6.2.5 completely transforms the desktop mode: users receive an advanced interface with improved disk space via KDE -Filight and plasma paves for data coding.
- The graphic sub-system received the MESA update and the integration of AMD P-State technology optimizes the energy consumption of the processor.
The DOCK steam deck is now more stable with monitors that support VRR technology (adaptive synchronization of the frame speed), and the IPv6 Privacy Extensions mechanism was introduced to protect data and improve the processing of situations with lack of memory. The update is only available via the preview of the steam deck (Settings → System → update channel).
According to insiders, a stable release is planned for April and the list of supported portable PC can be supplemented with new market participants. With the release of Steamos 3.7.0 valve not only reinforces the steam cover position, but also stops the PC manufacturers and offers a uniform operating system for mobile gaming.
