Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White did not include Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov in his list of the top five athletes of all time, reports GQ Sports.
White received a question from a fan asking if Nurmagomedov could be considered the greatest fighter of all time, and the UFC president replied in the negative.
“It’s very difficult… It’s obvious that he’s quite talented, who knows what he can achieve, but he ended his career way too early. Believe me, I tried to persuade Khabib to come out of retirement. Let’s see what happens in the next few years. He left at his peak. Look what he did to Justin Gaethje before he goes,” White said.
It is worth noting that during his entire career in MMA, Nurmagomedov had 29 fights, each of which ended in the victory of a Russian fighter. He last entered the octagon in the fall of 2020, defending his title again and fighting US representative Justin Gaethje. Immediately after the victorious fight, Nurmagomedov announced his retirement, saying to his mother that he promised not to go to matches without his father and coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who died in the summer of 2020 after complications from the coronavirus infection.
Before Nurmagomedov discretion Charles Oliveira’s chance to beat Islam Makhachev in the title fight.
