Russian tennis player Medvedev lost to Kiryos at the start of the Masters in Montreal.

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev lost to Australian Nick Kyrgios in the second round of the tournament held in Montreal.

The match, which lasted two hours, ended with the scores of 7:6 (7:2), 4:6, 2:6.

In the next round, Kiryos will play the winner of the pair Alex de Minor (Australia) – Grigor Dimitrov.

Currently, Medvedev maintains the lead in the Professional Tennis Players Association (ATP) rating. On July 25, the Russian started its tenth week as world number one, setting a new Russian record in men’s singles. Previously, this record (in 2000 and 2001) was broken by Marat Safin. He was the leader of the ATP rankings for nine weeks.

Medvedev, 26, took first place in the ATP rankings for the first time in early 2022. He then took the lead for three weeks, then handed the first place to 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.
