17-year-old Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva advanced to the second round of the Australian Open.

In the first round match, Andreeva defeated Czech Republic representative Maria Bouzkova.

The match, which lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes, ended with scores of 6:3 and 6:3.

In the second round, Andreeva will face the winner of the match between Moyuka Uchijima (Japan) and Magda Linette (Poland).

The Australian Open started on January 12. The tournament will last until January 26.

On March 6, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced its decision to allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to compete in neutral status at the Olympic Games in France. Russians and Belarusians will be able to compete in the 2024 Olympics if they comply with the neutral athlete principles previously formulated by the IOC. Russians Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schneider reached the final of the women’s doubles at the Olympic tournament and lost to the Italian couple Sara Errani/Yasmin Paolini. The remaining tennis players from Russia did not win a medal at the Games.
