“They gave me poisoned food. “I never mentioned this openly to anyone, but when I returned to Serbia I discovered that I had very high levels of heavy metals, lead and mercury, in my blood,” Djokovic said.
In January 2022, the Serbian tennis player was involved in a scandal. Djokovic was due to take part in the Australian Open but could not participate due to the lack of vaccination against Covid-19. He was placed in a quarantine hotel and later deported from Australia. Djokovic was also banned from visiting the country for three years.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to admit Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympic Games as neutral athletes at the end of 2023. To participate, they must meet a number of requirements and be qualified.
