Canadian and Swedish fans may be disappointed with their team’s performance at the World Junior Championship, Russian hockey coach Vladimir Plyushchev said in a conversation with a socialbites.ca correspondent.

“Who was the real disappointment of the tournament for me? The real question here is who is disappointed. Of course, Canadian fans were disappointed with their team’s result. The same can be said for the Swedes. I can say that those who deserved it played in the final. It is better to talk about the disappointments of the tournament with experts from Canada and Sweden. It would be better to ask them if they are disappointed with their team’s performance,” Plyushchev said.

At the World Junior Championship, Canada lost to the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals, and the Swedes lost to the Czechs in the third-place match.

The USA defeated Finland in the final. The meeting ended with the score 4:3 (overtime).

Finn Esse Kiiskinen opened the scoring in the first period. James Hagens regained parity a minute later but Tuomas Uronen put Finland back in front almost immediately. In the second period, Emil Pieniemi put Finland ahead with two goals, while Brandon Svoboda and Cole Hutson equalized the score at the end of twenty minutes.

In overtime, Teddy Stiga gave the USA victory in the tournament.
