The International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions in spring 2022. ISU explained this decision with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee. The last official debut of Russian figure skaters on the international stage was the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

On September 28, it became known that the ISU does not allow Russian figure skaters to participate in international competitions in the 2024/25 season. The decision regarding the future of local athletes was taken at the congress held on 27 and 28 September. As a result of the voting, Russian figure skaters were deprived of the opportunity to compete in international competitions in the upcoming season, which is the pre-Olympic season.
