Russian athlete Yana Burlakova won the gold medal at the World Track Cycling Championships held in Ballerup, Denmark.
In the 500-meter lap (individual sprint race) he showed a result of 32.863 seconds. Silver and bronze went to Sophie Capwell (33.010) and Katie Marchant (33.119) from Great Britain.
“I am very glad that Yana realized her dream. Russian Cycling Federation President Vyacheslav Ekimov stated that he was happy for the athlete for all the efforts made to ensure that his performance at the World Championships resulted in the championship.
Burlakova competed in neutral status.
In October 2023, he broke the world record in the 500-meter lap at the Krylatskoye track, but it was not confirmed.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to admit Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympic Games as neutral athletes at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a series of requirements and qualify. Medals of Russians and Belarusians were not taken into account in the unofficial medal tally.
