UN condemns IOC’s attitude towards women

United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur Reem Alsalem published a 24-page report on “Violence against women and girls in sports”, condemning the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) treatment of women’s sports. TASS.

The report revealed that female boxers were planned to compete against two opponents whose gender identities were highly questionable at the Paris Olympics, but the IOC refused to conduct a gender determination test. Alsalem noted that there are non-invasive and discreet technologies that can help determine gender using a cheek sample.

A scandal broke out at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Algerian boxer Iman Khelif won the Olympic gold medal in the 66 kilo category. In the final match of the Olympic tournament, Khelif fought China’s Yang Liu. The victory was given to the Algerian representative by the unanimous decision of the judges.

Khelif failed the gender test at the International Boxing Association (IBA) World Championships held in India a year ago. Additionally, Taiwan representative Lin Yuting could not pass a similar test in that championship. The International Olympic Committee later approved both athletes’ participation in the Games. Yuting also won a gold medal at the Games.

Formerly at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation spoke about the “dumbing down” of world sports.
