According to the latest rumors, NVIDIA plans to release a new generation of laptop GPUs at the end of the first or beginning of the second quarter of 2025. The most attention was attracted by the leak of the characteristics of the future flagship – GeForce RTX 5090, which will be equipped with 24 GB of ultra-fast GDDR7 memory with a 256-bit memory bus.
Sources indicate that the company is switching to a new video memory standard that will significantly improve performance compared to previous generations. The RTX 5090 is expected to feature a GB203 GPU with a die area of approximately 377mm². A video card designed for professional users and gamers.
Interestingly, NVIDIA is also preparing a line of less powerful RTX 50 series graphics cards for laptops. The RTX 5080 is expected to get 16 GB of memory, and the RTX 5070 – 12 GB, while it will be released at the same time. While the desktop version of the GeForce RTX 5090 will reportedly pack 32GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit bus, delivering as much as 2TB/sec of bandwidth and up to 600W of power consumption, the laptop version is aimed at balancing performance and power savings.
Important changes also apply to younger models. NVIDIA is expected to launch the RTX 5060 with 8GB of VRAM, with an upgrade to a 12GB version planned in the future. Details about the new graphics cards will be revealed closer to their official announcement, which could take place at CES 2025.
