Japanese company Elecom has announced the launch of certified USB4 2.0 cables that promise to significantly improve data transfer and energy efficiency. The new cables support data transfer speeds of up to 80 Gbps, which is double the capabilities of the previous version of USB4. In addition, they can transmit power up to 240 W, which opens up new perspectives for connecting energy-hungry devices.
The cables will be available in two versions: the first will deliver speeds of up to 80 Gbps and power up to 60 W, and the second will deliver the same speed with a maximum power of 240 W (48 V / 5 A). They are expected to be able to support high-end devices such as laptops, 8K monitors and external hard drives. According to PC Watch, both cable types also support video transmission via DisplayPort with up to 8K resolution at a 60Hz refresh rate.
The new USB4 2.0 standard will be formally launched in December this year and Elecom will be one of the first companies to market certified cables that meet the latest specifications. It is important to note that to achieve maximum throughput you must be connected to the PCI Express 5.0 x4 system bus.
