World record-holding Russian swimmer Evgenia Chikunova said she is not planning to get neutral status yet. The athlete’s words are quoted “Sports Express”.
“The way to return to international competitions is not easy. I have no idea about neutral status at the moment. This year I will start with local competitions such as the Russian Championship and the Vladimir Salnikov Cup,” Chikunova said.
The athlete’s world record was previously shown in a broadcast on the Olympics website during the swimming competitions. Before the start of the 200-meter breaststroke, Chikunova’s feat in April 2023 was shown on the broadcast. The Russian flag was displayed next to the athlete’s name. Chikunova holds the world record in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:17.55.
At the Russian Cup final in Kazan, 19-year-old Chikunova swam the 100m and 200m breaststroke faster than South African Tatyana Smith and American Kate Douglas, the winners of the 2024 Games, in these distances.
