The general director of the United Arab Emirates club, Ilie Cebanu, said that the Dutch midfielder Quincy Promes, who joined the team, is the best player in the country’s championship. His words are a guide “Sports Express”.
“The signing of Promes stirs up emotions. We understand that by football standards this is now the best player in the UAE. We hope he gets fit and gets on the pitch soon,” Cebanu said.
Promes’ contract with Spartak was due to expire on June 30. The club did not renew his employment contract.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes to six years in prison for cocaine trafficking. The hearing was held on January 24, with the prosecution requesting a nine-year sentence for Promes. The Dutchman was placed on the international wanted list on February 16. He was also sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for stabbing his cousin during a family party.
On March 13, Promes was arrested in the UAE in connection with a traffic accident. He fled the scene after colliding with a bus. He was previously under house arrest. Promes was released from custody in Dubai on May 17.
