Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion Khabib Nurmagomedov gave a shout-out to his cousin Umar Nurmagomedov for winning his title fight in a video on the Gorilla Energy YouTube channel.
“There are five people in the applicant’s room where Omar is. Four to five. There are not many. That’s it, the weak will come out. If Omar is weak, he leaves (the room). If the other is weak, he leaves. No one asks for your name and surname. If you are strong, you stay there. If you are weak, please leave. Do you understand what I mean, Omar?” – said Khabib.
The winner of the Sean O’Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili bout will be the Russian fighter’s title challenger. Their fight will take place on September 14 in Las Vegas.
On August 3, Umar defeated American Corey Sandhagen in the main event of UFC Abu Dhabi. After the win, he immediately announced that he was ready to fight for the division title. The 28-year-old Russian won by unanimous decision. He now has 18 wins in 18 fights. Sandhagen, 32, has 17 wins in 22 fights, while he suffered his fifth defeat.
Umar is the cousin of former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
