Kairat owner and president Kairat Boranbaev explained why the club decided to fire Russian specialist Alexander Kerzhakov from the position of head coach of the team after the defeat against Astana. His words are instructive “Sports Express”.
“Obviously, Alexander and I talked. But it was a constructive dialogue. A normal man’s conversation. The team lost – so what? Should I come and praise the coach and players for this result of the meeting? This is not your first year in football. Everyone needs to understand this for himself,” he said.
On September 3, journalist Ivan Karpov wrote on his Telegram channel reportedHe said that Boronbaev burst into the team’s locker room after a lost match with Astana (0:1), called Kerzhakov “complete nonsense” and said that the specialist “did nothing”, and also doubted the work of the coaching staff. After that, the specialist left the club.
Kerzhakov took charge of Kairat in May 2024. In the Kazakhstan Championship, Kairat is in first place, having collected 32 points after 18 rounds.
Before Kairat, Kerzhakov was the head coach of Serbia’s Spartak, where he led the team to five wins in 14 matches in Serbia’s top division. He was fired from Spartak on November 13, 2023 – at the time, the club was in 11th place in the table and had won only one of its last seven matches.
Before taking over the Serbian club, Kerzhakov was the head coach of the Cypriot Karmiotissa from the beginning of February 2023. Under his leadership, the team played seven matches, of which two ended in victory, four in defeat and one in a draw, after which the specialist voluntarily resigned from the post of head coach.
