Russian athlete wins gold medal at Paralympics with world record of 22:50

Russian track and field athlete Vladimir Sviridov won the gold medal in the shot put at the 2024 Summer Paralympics.

At the same time, the Russian athlete broke the world record of 17.18 meters. The previous world success belonged to Tunisia’s Yasmin Guenishi, who achieved it in July 2023 (16.86).

Another Russian, Alan Kokoity (16.27), won the silver medal, while Dastan Mukashbekov (16.00) from Kazakhstan won the bronze medal. The competition was held in the F36 class for athletes with poor coordination.

Thus, Russian athletes won 13 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze medals at the Paralympic Games in Paris. In total, 88 Russian Paralympic athletes are competing in the French capital.

On March 6, the International Paralympic Committee published criteria that would allow Russian Paralympic athletes to compete at the Games only with neutral status. Russian athletes will not be able to attend the opening and closing ceremonies, and their medals will not count towards the standings.
