Dutch beach volleyball player Steven van de Velde, who was convicted of raping an underage girl, has made statements about his career following the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His words are a guide Telegraph.

“But to hurt people around me, whether it was my wife, my child… It went too far. There were definitely moments when I thought: Is it worth continuing my career? – he said.
Van de Velde was sentenced to four years in prison for having sex with an underage girl. After serving part of his sentence, he was sent back to the Netherlands, where his sentence was commuted in accordance with local law.
On 28 July, paired with Matthew Immers, van de Velde lost the opening match of the group stage of the Olympic tournament 1–2 to Italians Alex Rangeri and Adrian Carambula. The Dutch volleyball player was booed during the pre-match presentation.
