Russian boxer Azalia Amineva has suggested creating a separate tournament for athletes who fail the gender test, such as Iman Khelif from Algeria. The Russian woman was quoted as saying “Match TV”.
“You can’t call Khelif a transsexual. Her situation is an anomaly. Ideally, separate competitions would be held for athletes like Iman. “Women’s sports must be kept clean,” Amineva said.
Khelif failed a gender test at the IBA World Championships in India a year ago, and Taiwan’s Lin Yuting also failed a similar test at that championship. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) later approved both athletes’ participation in the Games.
In the semi-final match of the 2024 Olympics held on August 6, the Algerian athlete defeated Thailand’s Janjay Suwannaphaeng by unanimous decision.
