Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has advanced to the third round of the singles event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
In the second round, the Russian athlete defeated Austrian representative Sebastian Ofner. The match, which lasted only 1 hour and 6 minutes, ended in two sets 6:2, 6:2. During the match, Medvedev served six times, made one double fault and converted four of the seven break points earned.
Medvedev will face Canadian representative Felix Auger-Aliassime for a place in the quarter-finals of the Olympic tournament.
Medvedev had previously completed his performance at the Games with Roman Safiullin in the doubles and Mirra Andreeva in the mixed doubles. Safiullin also advanced to the third round in the singles and Andreeva, who was eliminated in the singles, advanced to the second round of the doubles tournament, pairing with Diana Schneider.
The International Olympic Committee, which removed Russia and Belarus in February 2022 due to the start of the SVO at the end of 2023, decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games. In order to participate, they had to fulfill a number of conditions and qualify. A total of 15 athletes from Russia are participating in the Olympic Games.
