Victoria Komova, two-time silver medalist of the 2012 Olympics in artistic gymnastics, criticized the opening of the Olympics in Paris in her social networks.

“Awful! This is a failure. There was a click from below. This opening of the Olympics makes me want to vomit. Russia is the best country. Russia – I love you,” Komova wrote.

For the first time in Olympic history, the ceremony took place not in the stadium, but against the backdrop of city attractions – athletes sailed along the Seine River from the Austerlitz Bridge to the Jena Bridge in 180 boats.

Before the opening of the Games in Paris, the Olympic flame was carried by rapper Snoop Dogg, and a torchbearer dressed as an assassin ran with the Olympic flame across the rooftops of the city.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued an appeal to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.
