Russian swimmer Evgeny Somov says he will swim the 50m freestyle at the Olympics despite initially only competing in the 100m breaststroke. “Match TV”.

“Will I crawl 50 meters? Yes. I’m getting ready to set sail. They told me I could go a little further, so I decided to swim,” Somov said.

At the Olympic tournament, Somov reached the semifinals in the 100-meter breaststroke and finished in 13th place.

Somov is the only representative of Russia in water sports.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued an appeal to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.
