Russian swimmer Evgeny Somov finished 13th in the 100-meter breaststroke at the Olympic tournament, advancing to the semifinals.
Somov is Russia’s sole representative in aquatics. He is competing only in the 100m breaststroke. Russian swimmers will not participate in other disciplines.
Belarusian swimmer Ilya Shimanovich qualified for the semi-finals of the competition for the third time.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued an appeal to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.
The Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
On July 18, the IOC released: full list Russian athletes have been accepted to the 2024 Olympic Games. A total of 15 people are going to the Games with neutral status.
