Jamaican hammer thrower Nyoka Clunies will miss the 2024 Paris Olympics due to internet issues with the Jamaica Athletics Association (JAAA). Information regarding this has been released on the organisation’s official website.
The association said it had not entered Clunis into the Olympics due to an error: the lack of electricity and internet access due to Cyclone Beryl.
The quota reserved for the Jamaican athlete was taken by the Ukrainian representative Irina Klimets.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a call to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.
