International Olympic Committee (IOC) Communications Director Mark Adams said that in modern realities the declaration of the Olympic truce is a symbolic act. He is quoted as saying “Championship.com”.
“We are not naive and we do not hope that the Olympic truce will lead to all of them stopping the fire, but we are for cultural peace, showing how nations can live together peacefully in the Olympics. The Olympic Truce is more of a symbolic act,” Adams said.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11. The ceasefire begins seven days before the Games begin and lasts for another seven days after they are completed.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued an appeal to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.
July 18 IOC published the full list Russian athletes were accepted to the Olympic Games 2024. Total – 15 people.
