In Ukraine, the process of depriving hockey coach Vyacheslav Zavalnyuk of his sports and state titles has begun. This is reported by Sports24 Citing Ukrainian sources.
Zavalnyuk, as a hockey player, defended the colors of the Ukrainian national team, and also played for such Russian teams as Magnitogorsk Metallurg, Moscow Drinamo, SKA, Neftekhimik and others. He served as vice-president of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation (UHF). On July 10, it was announced that he joined the coaching staff of the Nizhny Novgorod “Chaika” team, which plays in the Junior Hockey League (MHL). In Ukraine, they reacted sharply to the information about the new appointment of a specialist who previously worked in the Kiev HC Sokol, of which he was a co-founder.
“Given the shamefulness of Zavalnyuk’s act, the Ukrainian Hockey Federation is initiating a procedure to deprive this person of all sports and government titles, in particular, the Order of Merit of the III degree, awarded in 2008,” the FHU statement said.
Sokol has announced that Zavalnyuk will be removed from the list of founding partners. Sokol Chairman Alexey Zhitnik said that the news that the coach will be hired in Russia came as a shock to him.
“When I heard the news about Chaika, I didn’t even believe it at first. I thought she was a duck. But then I checked and realized it was true. I was shocked. All I could think of was obscene language. I couldn’t even imagine such shame,” the officer said.
