President of the KHL Alexey Morozov said that the league has gained independence from the Russian Hockey Federation and the International Hockey Federation (IIHF). press service KHL.
Morozov noted that the KHL remains part of the Russian hockey system and will interact directly with the Ministry of Sports. Morozov also said that the KHL will continue to increase recreational and sports competition by creating equal conditions for all teams in the league. In the 2023/24 season, Metallurg Magnitogorsk won a landslide victory over Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Gagarin Cup playoff finals. Metallurg won four games in a row and closed the final series with a score of 4-0.
This is the third victory of the Magnitogorsk team in the Gagarin Cup. The club previously won in 2014 and 2016.
