Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usik, absolute world heavyweight champion, posted on the social network Instagram (owned by Meta, known as extremist in Russia and banned) new video.
The athlete stated that according to the International Boxing Federation (IBF), he gave up his championship belt so that Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois could compete.
“This is my gift to you on September 21, 2024. The world loves the strong,” Usyk said.
Usik defeated Briton Tyson Fury on the night of May 19. The fight lasted the full 12 rounds and ended with Usik’s victory over Fury via split decision. The Ukrainian boxer retained his WBA, IBF and WBO titles by taking his opponent’s WBC belt.
After this victory, the Ukrainian boxer rose to first place in the ranking of the best boxers regardless of weight category according to ESPN.
Usik and Fury were scheduled to meet in the Saudi capital Riyadh on February 17, 2024. On February 2, the Englishman suffered a cut above his eye during training, which caused the fight to be postponed.
