Russian Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky in an interview with the National Hockey League (NHL) press service statedthat his team deserved to win the Stanley Cup Final.
“To be a true champion, you have to overcome adversity. This was the moment when we had to come together and get the job done. We were not afraid to make mistakes, we played freely and offensively,” said Bobrovsky.
The Florida Panthers faced the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL Playoff Finals. The final matchup featured a full seven games. Florida initially led the series 3–0, but then lost three straight games. The Panthers won Game 7, 2–1, at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, California. Bobrovsky played the entire match in goal.
For the Russian goalkeeper, this cup was the first in his career.
The goaltender is a two-time winner of the Vezina Trophy for the best goaltender of the NHL regular season (2013, 2017). He has played for Florida since 2019; prior to that, he played in the NHL for the Philadelphia Flyers (2010–2012) and the Columbus Blue Jackets (2012–2019).
