Zagitova became an Olympic champion in 2018. In addition to the gold at the Games, the athlete has gold medals at the 2019 World Championships and gold and silver medals at the 2018 and 2019 European Championships. Zagitova is the only solo figure skating athlete in Russian history and the second skater in world history after Kim Yong Ah to win all world figure skating championships. She took a break from her career in 2019 but never announced the end of it.

In February 2022, Zagitova took part as captain in the Channel One Cup team tournament, which the “Red Machine” team won. She was also the captain of one of the teams participating in the Channel 1 Cup in 2024. Zagitova hosted the show “Ice Age” together with Olympic champion Alexei Yagudin.
