Former CSKA Moscow player and football expert Vladimir Ponomarev admitted that there is no point in dismissing the head coach of Ural Yekaterinburg Viktor Goncharenko. His words guide the way “Euro-Football.Ru”.
“This is to be expected. He showed an unsatisfactory performance. I got into transition games. I lost the first match. But what is the purpose of firing him? They will appoint another coach. Will they win? NO. They will be relegated to the First League,” he said.
Ural lost to Akron Tolyatti in the first play-off match for the right to play in the 2024/25 season in the Russian Premier League. The match, which took place at the Ekaterinburg Arena with the participation of 13,500 spectators, ended with the Togliatti team winning 2:0. The winners included 27-year-old defender Nemanja Andjelkovic and 21-year-old midfielder Kirill Danilin, with the goals scored in the 67th and 72nd minutes respectively.
The return match will be played in Zhigulevsk on June 1. The starting whistle of the match will blow at the Crystal Stadium at 15.00 Moscow time.
Goncharenko has been coaching Ural since 2022. Before that, he worked in Krasnodar, CSKA Moscow and Ufa.
