President of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) Vladislav Tretyak reported that the Russian national team does not exclude the possibility of playing matches with the USA and Canada “Sports Express”.
“Why? Nothing is impossible, but we have to work on it. It will not be possible to implement it this year. We will watch,” Tretyak said.
In February 2024, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarusian national teams. The organization stated that the IIHF Council will continue to monitor the situation and in May 2025 will consider the reintegration of the Russian and Belarusian national teams for the 2025/26 season.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. At the end of 2023, the organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes. To participate, they must meet a number of requirements and be qualified.
