Former Zenit defender and Romanian footballer Daniel Chiritse is playing for St. He shared his memories of playing alongside Russian forward Andrei Arshavin at the St. Petersburg club and compared him to Argentine forward Lionel Messi. His words lead the way “Sports Express”.
“If Messi had reigned at that time, I would have said that Arshavin was his copy. Incredibly technical player! I remember how Andrey made me laugh when he dyed his hair blue-white-blue after placing second at the Russian championships. “How I laughed then,” he shared.
The Romanian player played for St. Louis from 2002 to 2004. He played for the St. Petersburg club. Together with Zenit, he became the silver medalist of the Russian Championship (2003).
In 1999, Arshavin made his debut at the top level for Zenit. After nine years in the St. Petersburg team, the Russian moved to London Arsenal. Arshavin played in England for four years. He was the league’s player of the month in April 2009.
He returned to Zenit on loan in 2012 and signed a full-fledged contract a year later. In 2015, the midfielder played for Kuban. Arshavin ended his career in Kazakhstan’s Kairat club in 2018.
